Nancy Noyola

Our “Pie it Forward” recipient this month is as sweet as our strawberry rhubarb pie! Nancy Noyola “pied it forward” to another customer at the shop. Below is the letter Drew, my nighttime manager, wrote …

We greeted Nancy with our typical warm welcome of "Hello! How are you today?" As she browsed the selection of baked goods a gentleman came in. He decided to purchase a slice of pie, but quickly realized he had forgotten his wallet. Embarrassed, the man began to move toward the door, but Nancy stopped him. She asked him what he wanted, then proceeded to have us box up not just a slice, but a whole pie of his choice, and insisted that we add it to her bill. He gave her a big hug and left to return to his family waiting in the car. We told her how awesome that made us feel and informed her of our "Pie It Forward" mission. This sparked Nancy to share with us her own mission.

A few years back Nancy lost her husband; an event that truly changed her life. She told us how her loss helped her realize the importance of cherishing every day. For years, she said, they saved their money for vacations or to enjoy with their kids, but those opportunities never came. So now, during the holidays, you’ll find Nancy sneaking up behind a random person in the grocery store to pay for their groceries or in the pie shop treating an unsuspecting customer and his family to dessert.

Nancy came into the bakery that afternoon with the intention of picking up a couple cookies and a slice of pie for herself and her family to enjoy. But before she left she had made an impact on not only on an unsuspecting customer but on us employees as well.

Working at Sweetie-licious we have the pleasure of witnessing selfless acts of kindness every single day. We really wanted to take the time to let Nancy know how much we appreciate her mission and also her contribution to our "Pie It Forward" mission. Stories like this show the power and possibility of "Changing the World One Pie at a Time”. Thank you Nancy!!
