Tues. is "Martha Dixon Day"

Please join us at the shop, and on Facebook and our Website, on Tuesday February 7th as we celebrate a pioneer local food personality - Martha Dixon. “Martha Dixon Day” will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2012 from 6:30 am to 6:00 pm. Ms. Dixon hosted a popular cooking television program during the 1950's-60's, “The Copper Kettle” on WJIM, TV 6, in Lansing, Michigan. She was our local, Julia Child. Her show was a must-see every week for homemakers in the area. On that day we will be serving up some of Martha's wonderful dishes!

In addition WLNS (Channel 6) will be broadcasting from the shop between 6-7 am that day!  Please stop into the shop if you'd like to share your memories of Martha live on television. Otherwise, please stop in to try some of Martha's wonderful food that we'll be cooking, to write down your memories of her in our book, and to join the celebration for a very special woman many of us fondly remember!

I'll have to try and stop by because I loved Martha Dixon. My grandma, Hazel Strouse, was the behind the scenes cook/baker for her show. She ended up being a cook for Gov.Milliken also. The pies at your shop are truly wonderful but my memory of my grandma's rival yours. Ask anyone from Mason who had them when she baked for the Farm House Restaurant during the late '70s!

I still have her cookbook, and the tattered holiday recipe sheets from her Christmas specials, do you use some of her recipes?

My sister and I were Martha's guest for the day at the WJIM studio. I was probably 12 and my sister 10. I remember that she was a very gracious and lovely lady. Where Martha Stewart's signature quote is "its a good thing" I remember Martha Dixon's as "its mighty good".

It was wonderful to see you honor Martha Dixon on the news this morning. Martha's show "Cooper Kettle" was a important part of our mother's week. Mother was able to get a signed copy of her cook book and was always trying one of the receips from the book or show. Country House Fudge always made for the holidays. Thanks you for the wonderful memories.
