Katie Coon

Name and Family and all you want to share

My name is Katie Coon, I'm 18 and I live in the lovely little town of DeWitt with my lovely little family. My dad's name is Doug and my mom's name is Diane. They are the best parents in the whole wide world and I love them with all of my heart. I have an older sister, Jenny, who is a senior at Ferris State University studying nursing and a twin sister, Beth.

I am a senior at DeWitt High School this year. I've been filling out applications for college...there are many options, but I know I want to study physical therapy where ever I go.

Your Favorite Sweetie-licious Pie and/or Baked Goods and Why

My favorite Sweetie-licious pie is the Cherry Blackberry Peach. All of Linda's cherry combinations are to die for, but I especially love the refreshing bite of peach and small crunch with the blackberry seeds.

The So Good Sour Cream Sugar Cookies are my favorite baked good in the shop. I love how I get to eat the same cookie but in different form every season/holiday! It's just about as fun decorating them as eating them too!

Your Favorite Sweetie-licious Memory

My favorite Sweetie-licious memory is the ornament exchange Linda has for us each year at Christmas. We all gather in her cute little farm house and share laughter and smiles while enjoying delicious appitizer treats. Drew makes a yummy eggnog, and others share sometimes too. Once everyone arrives, we all head to the family room and sit in a circle to begin our exchange. Rules are stated (because we are all competitive!), and number cards get passed out. You hope you're first so you'll get the last pick once they are all open at the end! The whole process is a riot, and no matter what you always come out with a beautiful ornament to add to your tree that year.

Your Favorite Cooking and Baking Memory

Every year the Sunday before our family Christmas party I get together with the girls in our family to bake Christmas goodies for the party. We rotate between my aunts, my grandmas, and my house. There is buckeye making on the kitchen table, peppermint bark and pies in the kitchen, and sugar cookie frosting on a table by the couch along with whatever else us girls decided to come up with over the year. We share stories and laugh all day while smelling the greatness of baking. And the best part is, we get to share all our yummy treats with the whole family at Christmas!

  • 1 C margarine, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 1/2 C flour
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp. baking powder

Mix top 4 ingredients in mixer. Add rest to above mixture and refridgerate 1 hour. Cut out shapes and bake 7-8 minutes at 375 degrees.

ICING:

  • 1 C powdered sugar sifted

My mom makes these cookies every holiday for anyone and everyone. I think they've become such a tradition just because people always ask for them because they like them so much!
