Name and Family and all you want to share
Patty B, I have 3 funny, wonderful, handsome, smart sons Paul, Mike, and Nick. I also have 1 sister, 2 brothers, 2 crazy dogs and a kitty.
I'm originally from Flint, and moved to the Dewitt area in 1985. I worked in the insurance industry for over 30 years, then stayed home to raise my boys. My love for cooking and baking brought me to Sweetie-licious when my youngest son was a senior in High school and soccer season was over. I decided I needed to fill my time. I was in downtown Dewitt one day and just walked in and the shop and asked for a job as a baker. Best impulse I ever had.
Not a student, but I'm always learning about my favorite thing, baking. I work with women who share their love for the art of baking and cooking and I learn from them every day.
Your Favorite Sweetie-licious Pie and/or Baked Goods and Why
I love every pie we make so it's difficult to pick just one, but if I had to name one, it would be..oh this is hard...in the early Summer I love strawberry rhubarb pie, strawberry cream pie, and later summer our blueberry raspberry and also peach cream pie. In the fall, I love our apple pie with caramel or without. Of course, any of our cherry pies are the best but I especially like our cherry peach blackberry. OK, I couldn't pick one. It's impossible. A tradition at the shop is that Linda makes us a pie for our birthday and I change my mind every year! Now, although I love pie, I have always been more a cookie lover. Our molasses and cherry lemon bombs are the best ever. The molasses because they remind me of my mom's and the cherry lemon bombs because they are just so darn good.
Your Favorite Sweetie-licious Memory
I think my favorite sweetie-licious memories would have to be the early mornings working with the other bakers. Most mornings Linda puts the music on loud and we sing and laugh while we work. We have all become good friends and confidants. We share the good, the bad, and the ugly, and although we work hard and fast we have fun. I appreciate my fellow bakers and their friendships.
Your Favorite Cooking and Baking Memory
My favorite baking or cooking memory was being with my mom, in the kitchen, helping her cook or bake. As I got older, I wanted to learn more than just making cakes from a box, or how to make a pie, and my mother was of the new generation where convenient cooking and baking became the norm. My mother told me that I must have inherited her mothers love for baking. Although my grandmothers were both gone, my mother dug out my grandmothers recipes and let me experiment. I watched Julia Child on television and I had no idea what half the ingredients were, but I read and studied cookbooks since then. I would read cookbooks, cover to cover. I have a pretty hefty collection of books and I can't seem to get rid of any of them.
