Sunday Dinners - May

Welcome to our Sunday Dinner and Celebrations page! Our mission is to celebrate home-life with monthly exclusive and delicious Sweetie-licious recipes and ideas, in that we all will continue the rich tradition of lovely family dinners in our homes. We are thrilled to share our treasured library of recipes and traditions to help make our lives meaningful, our homes happy, and our palates joyous!

There is nothing better than the start of summer, as there seems to be a contagious feeling in the air like no other season – that of summer freedom! I think it takes us back to being a kid on summer vacation, where every day was whatever we wanted to make it – riding bikes, playing ball, running through sprinklers, drinking Kool-aid, and simply playing all day long! I believe that summer brings out the childlike magic in our souls and ignites our playful, energetic personas; what a lovely spell our summer brings!!! So get out the fishing poles, the water slides, and the barbeque, and let us indulge in the magic summer ahead!

May Menu

There is nothing more anticipated than the first official summer barbeque! Our menu reflects all the classic barbeque favorites with a added flavor twists to start this summer with more taste than ever!  Divide the dishes up among various family members and/or friends, and enjoy each other, and your first barbeque!

Celebrating the Season...

Seasonal Ideas

May is the planting season here in Michigan – I love getting the family together to help prepare flower and vegetable beds, plant flowers and seeds, and conclude the day with a delicious family barbeque to thank them for their efforts!

"There shall be eternal summer in the
grateful heart."-- Celia Thaxter

We have always had a family cookout on Memorial Day, and then head to the cemetery with flowers to plant on the graves of our passed loved ones. It is a lovely tradition that has somehow fallen out of favor, so let's all remember our loved ones in some way this year on their special day of remembrance!

This is a great time to head to the local zoo too! Take a picnic along with you and relish the day watching the marvel of animals!

Keeping it Simple

Because we haven't gotten into the heat of the summer yet, this is the perfect time to take a long bike ride in the country, neighborhood or wherever you can enjoy the early summer ambience the best! Everything is brighter and happier this time of year, as the flowers and leaves are new and aromatic and the birds are singing louder and prettier! It is of course, great exercise too!

May Memories...

One of the things I most looked forward to around the end of May, almost more than I looked forward to the end of school for the summer, was having my mom take to me to J.C. Pennys for a new pair of glaringly white Keds tennis shoes. I wore them to school the next day and walked around carefully to keep them as pristine white as possible. They always made me feel wonderful, first because they were so clean and new, and second because getting them meant that summer had officially arrived!  -- Gail
